What does transferring a domain mean

Transferring a domain means moving its management from one provider to another. Usually the registrant remains the same, but renewal and management move to the new provider.

Reviewed:

It is not buying a new domain

Transferring a domain does not mean registering an available name.

It means that an existing domain moves from one provider or registrar to another. The name stays the same and, in most cases, the registrant also stays the same.

What changes is who manages it, where it is renewed and which panel is used for domain operations.

What may change

A transfer may change:

  • the provider managing the domain;
  • the panel used for renewal;
  • management notices and procedures;
  • related services if DNS, web or email are also moved.

The domain transfer does not automatically move the website or email. Those services must be reviewed separately.

What you usually need

To start a transfer, you usually need:

  • the domain not to be locked;
  • the transfer code or Auth-Code;
  • access to the administrative or contact email;
  • correct registrant details;
  • a domain status that allows transfer.

Each extension may have specific rules.

How PRIMARI.NET handles it

At PRIMARI.NET, incoming transfers are managed from Transfer domain.

The panel collects the domain, transfer code and required details. When the order is paid and validated, PRIMARI.NET sends the request to the relevant registry or provider.

If the domain already belongs to another PRIMARI.NET user, it may not be a transfer between providers, but an internal management or ownership change. That case is handled differently.

When to contact PRIMARI.NET

Contact PRIMARI.NET if you are unsure whether you need a transfer, an ownership change or only a DNS change. Ask for help before moving a domain that already has active web or email services.
