How to know if a domain is yours

A domain is under your control when it appears in your panel, the registrant details are correct and you have access to the administrative email and related services.

A website is not enough

A website showing your name or brand does not always mean the domain is yours.

To know whether a domain is yours, check who manages it, which registrant details are recorded and who can renew it, change DNS or request a transfer.

Three levels of control

There are three different things:

  • the domain may be inside your management account;
  • the registry data may name you or your company as registrant;
  • services such as DNS, web and email may be configured by a provider.

The best situation is when all three are clear and consistent.

Signs that you control the domain

You can usually consider that you control the domain if:

  • you see it in your customer panel;
  • you can renew it;
  • you can edit DNS or request changes;
  • the registrant or administrative email is accessible;
  • the registrant details are correct;
  • you can obtain the transfer code when needed.

If someone else controls the panel or administrative email, practical control may be incomplete.

How to check it at PRIMARI.NET

Log in to PRIMARI.NET and open Domain buy/manage.

In the managed domain list, check that the domain is associated with your user. From that area you can review the available information and perform management actions depending on the domain status.

Also review the registrant details. If the domain belongs to a company, the data should identify the company, not only the person who placed the order.

If the domain is not in the panel

If the domain is not shown in your panel, it may be:

  • registered with another provider;
  • located under another PRIMARI.NET user;
  • only using a related service, but not domain management;
  • owned by a third party and pointing to your services.

Clarify this before making important website or email changes.

When to contact PRIMARI.NET

Contact PRIMARI.NET if the domain should appear in your account but does not, if the registrant details are wrong or if you need to prepare a transfer or ownership change.
