What does buying a domain mean?

Buying a domain means registering the right to use an Internet name for a specific period, usually one year or more.

It is not a permanent purchase. If the domain is not renewed, it can expire and may eventually become available to someone else.

The domain is only the name, such as example.com. To show a website, receive email or point to another service, you also need DNS, hosting, forwarding or email configuration.

Before you start

Before registering a domain, check:

  • that the name is spelled correctly;
  • that the extension is the one you want;
  • whether it belongs to a person, company or organisation;
  • which email address will receive important notices;
  • whether you need web, email or only name reservation;
  • that the registrant details are accurate and current.

A mistake in the name or registrant data can be difficult to correct later.

General steps

  1. Search whether the domain is available.
  2. Choose the right extension.
  3. Review the price and registration period.
  4. Enter the registrant details.
  5. Confirm the order.
  6. Complete the payment.
  7. Wait for registration confirmation.
  8. Configure the services you need.

Availability can change until the registration is completed. Do not treat a domain as yours just because it appeared available in a search.

How to buy a domain at PRIMARI.NET

Log in to PRIMARI.NET and open Domain buy/manage.

Enter the domain you want to register and check availability. If it is available, continue with the purchase and review the registrant details carefully.

During checkout, PRIMARI.NET stores the request and links it to your panel user. When payment is accepted, the system sends the registration to the provider and activates the domain after confirmation.

After the purchase

When the domain has been registered, it appears in the panel as a domain managed by your user.

You can then add or configure related services:

  • primary DNS;
  • secondary DNS;
  • web hosting;
  • web forwarding;
  • email;
  • certificates.

Buying the domain does not automatically create a website or mailbox. Those are separate services.

When to contact PRIMARI.NET

Contact PRIMARI.NET if you are unsure which extension to choose, if the domain is for a company with specific registrant details, if you are buying it for someone else or if you want domain, DNS, web and email configured from the start.
