MX records say which servers receive email for a domain. If they are wrong, messages may not arrive.

MX records point email
An MX record says which servers should receive email for a domain.
When someone sends a message to an address at your domain, the sending server checks the MX records to know where to deliver it.
What an MX contains
An MX usually has:
- the domain or host it applies to;
- the destination mail server;
- a priority.
Priority makes it possible to list more than one mail server in order.
Common mistakes
Common mistakes include:
- having no
MX; - pointing to the wrong server;
- removing old MX records before preparing new ones;
- confusing MX with an
AorCNAMErecord; - changing MX without reviewing SPF or other email records.
At PRIMARI.NET
If domain email is managed at PRIMARI.NET, the MX records must point to the servers indicated by the email service.
Records can be reviewed from Primary DNS when PRIMARI.NET manages the DNS zone. After changing them, press Activate changes.
When to contact PRIMARI.NET
Contact PRIMARI.NET before changing MX if email is in production, if you want to move email to another provider or if messages are not arriving.
